Hi all
I've had a buyer who ordered my gig a number of times over the past month. Each time I delivered it, he left a positive review, and the money showed up in my account. Now a couple of days ago, all the money I had earned had just disappeared. I contacted support and they told me he had initiated a chargeback, and there's nothing they could do about that except wait for the dispute to be resolved.
However, reading the PayPal support site, it specifically said that the seller (the one who received the money - in this case Fiverr) will be contacted and has to give information about the case to resolve the dispute.

So, as it turns out, Fiverr only protects their own income, but couldn't care less about their sellers. I get that most of you haven't had any problems, and I'm glad for you all, but just be aware that Fiverr won't be there for you when you do get a seller who knows how to abuse the system.
I'm still in talks with both Fiverr and PayPal support, trying to get this case resolved, but the bottomline is that it's unacceptable for a company like Fiverr to not only be unable to guarantee payment (which I kind of understand, there are frauds everywhere) but to flat out refuse to take responsibility or to stand up for their users/customers once things get a little bit more complicated. I'd figured that giving them 20% of my income would at least entitle me to some degree of support like this, but apparently they just pocketed the money and quickly took off when I needed something in return.
For this reason, I will no longer use Fiverr to do business (because basically everyone can do something like this, order stuff and start a chargeback after accepting delivery, and Fiverr won't do anything about it), but I figured I should make new sellers aware of this little fact. Because in the end, we're here to earn some extra money, and if Fiverr can't even guarantee us that we'll get paid for the work we do (let alone if we actually have to invest to do this work - e.g. materials or digital resources) then in my opinion it's not trustworthy enough to actually use their payment system.
Sidenote: Julia of Fiverr support, I mean you no harm and you haven't done anything wrong - You're probably just repeating what they told you. I thank you for your answers so far.
So, to recap:
- Buyers can initiate a chargeback through PayPal and Fiverr will not do anything about it.
- Even if you're losing money because of this, Fiverr will not care about you. The only thing they care about is their own profits (which, let's be honest, must be a lot - 20% on all transactions isn't nothing).
- I'm leaving Fiverr because they cannot give me even the slightest guarantee that I will actually get paid.
- Sellers, especially new sellers, should be VERY aware of this. Because before this I actually thought Fiverr cared about their users too.
I hope this information helps you to decide whether or not to use Fiverr to do business.
Are there any other sellers who have had a similar experience with Fiverr? I'm curious to hear your stories.
